deputy station manager of FlyLive
radio presenter and producer
r
As well as radio presenting my own show for Fly Live
and Somervalley FM,
I also thoroughly enjoy the journalism I create for
the radio.

It's about telling peoples stories, giving those who would usually be unheard a chance to be heard. I love interviewing a wide variety people, all of which have a story to tell-from vox pops to interviews with councillors and nurses, the job is always different and you never truly know what you are going to get and that's exactly what excites me.

What I have noted is the power of listening, you may have preplanned questions BUT when you truly listen to an interviewee they may unpack a whole other story- one you didn't or did another broadcast competitor know about. It's then down to me to execute the story well to inform my audience of such story. It's delivering the gossip of the world!

Global-
LBC News, Capital fm and Smooth Radio

I worked for Global as a journalist, I got to work alongside Alex Hulse and Luke Shanahan.

During the day, I researched stories and sourced interviewees.
The top story was the tragic story of the earthquakes in Turkey. To localise this story I found a society from Nottingham Trent which was ran by Serhat Balta, he had been helping with donations which were being to Turkey the following day.

Serhat had family in Turkey, he explained how he has been trying to contact them but sadly couldn't, I also met Ali Topola, he had sadly found out that he lost his family in Turkey- it was a really emotional story and one which I was honoured to have covered.

It is stories like this which remind me of why I love journalism, it's shining a light on those who are doing so much to help despite what they are going through. It's giving those people a voice and to be heard.

After this interview, I edited the clips and they got played nationally on LBC News and on Capital East Midlands along with Smooth Radio too.

I real surreal moment hearing my work on air!

Radio presenting and producing
However, it isn't just broadcast journalism in radio I enjoy, I too love radio presenting and have done since 2020. I present for Fly Live Mondays 4-6pm, SomerValley FM and have produced for Smooth Radio. I really love producing at Smooth, it's about creating those "friend in you ear" links that relate the Smooth demographic. After a song by Paul Young was played, I researched and created a link for Gareth to say which was how ‘Smooth artist Paul Young are supporting The Great Teddy Bear Project! by auctioning teddy bears made from their jeans, Paul Young then liked our tweet on Twitter which was great for our reach!
Additionally, I have shadowed The Graham Norton show at Virgin Radio and worked at BBC Radio Nottingham giving contacts, story ideas and content for their Womens show.
DEMO of my show:
From the bad dad joke of the week, your Bex bit of the week the time where you tell me your best bit of the week no matter how small and hear an update from Tom and his gym crush...

I attended a radio conference in November 2022, where I met Rob Addock from BBC,
Chris North, Mike Cass along with many other amazing radio pros!

I spoke to Mike Cass, head of Virgin Radio and at the end of the evening I got his email and emailed him the following day, pitching myself to come in to shadow The Graham Norton Show- a show I absolutely LOVE.

He responded and I was allowed to come in the first weekend of December, this was a surreal experience and one I will NEVER forget. I got to learn from the amazing Polly who is the producer of the show along with Mick Meadows.

I learnt a lot from them all about the art of radio presenting and I really hope to return!

Ice Hockey

As part of uni culture, Varsity is when we compete against other universities in a range of sports.

Fly Live is the radio station I am deputy station manager of and we decided to cover the Ice Hockey, this was an amazing experience.

I got to present some of the show, and watch the game- trying to deliver the same buzz and atmosphere through the microphone to the listeners.

We will be covering the rest of the varsity games and I can't wait to do so!

MORE THAN MOVEMBER
In November of 2022, I created the multi platform campaign More Than Movember for mens mental health for the station I am deputy station manager of Fly Live. This was in attempt to help break the stigma of mens mental health, and try break the taboo across campus.

To do this, I had a very open and honest conversation with a boy called LLoyd Canfield, we discussed how he finds opening up and advice we'd give.

He mirrors the audiences age of Fly Live and this was delivered in a really open, chatty way- one which I thought would engage the demographic.

Alongside this open conversation, I created a script for a video that was posted on our social media pages. This was read by each of Fly Live's committee. We also created graphics for our social media posts, which gave informative information to go alongside the video interview I did with Lloyd which got played on air too.

Removing the filter: podcast trailer
First year 2020 work
A podcast trailer on the truth behind social media, interviewing 2 different genders and demographics on their opinion of social media. Whereby, despite the difference in age and gender, both feel the same about the damage social media does to ones mental health. A perceived 'reality' that is in-fact a false desired reality.
